Privacy Policy
This policy describes how Behind Midnight / Indie Lot (“we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use Indie Lot and Indie-lot Messenger.
1. What we collect
Account information
When you create an account on the Indie Lot website, we collect:
- Email address
- Password (stored by our authentication provider in hashed/credential form; we do not see your plaintext password in the app)
- Display name and profile details you choose to provide (for example profile photo)
Messages and community content
When you use messaging (web or iOS app), we store:
- Direct and group messages you send
- Group names, membership, and optional crew role labels
- Photos or files you choose to send in chats
- Read/delivery-related message state needed to operate the messenger
Device and notifications (iOS app)
If you allow notifications, we collect:
- An Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token so we can deliver alerts when you receive messages
- Basic app/session signals needed to keep you signed in on that device (securely stored on device, for example in Keychain)
Usage needed to run the product
We process limited activity data such as:
- Sign-in / session verification
- Online presence / last-active style signals used to show who is available in the product
- Technical logs for reliability and abuse prevention (for example error and request logs)
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for third-party advertising. We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites for advertising.
2. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Create and secure your account
- Provide messaging, friends/members features, and related Indie Lot community tools
- Sync conversations between the website and the iOS app
- Send push notifications you enable
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the service
- Protect against abuse, fraud, and security incidents
- Comply with law when required
3. How we share information
We share information only as needed to operate Indie Lot:
- Service providers that host or process data for us (for example cloud hosting, database, email delivery, and authentication). They process data on our instructions.
- Other Indie Lot users, when you message them or appear in shared community features (your display name, messages, photos you send, and crew role labels in groups).
- Legal / safety, if we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect users or the service.
We do not sell personal information.
4. Data retention
We keep account and message data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. You may delete messages you are allowed to delete in-product. You can permanently delete your account in the Indie-lot Messenger iOS app (Delete account next to Sign out) or on the website account page at https://indie-lot.com/account. For help with a broader data request, contact us at the email above. We may retain limited records as required for security, legal, or operational reasons.
Story Seed contributions and edit history remain after account deletion, attributed to “Deleted member” without the deleted account’s profile links or credit identity. Seeds owned by a deleted account close to new ideas. The writing itself is retained, including any personal details a member included in its text. Contact us for requests concerning those details.
5. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards appropriate to a messaging product, including HTTPS/TLS in transit and access controls on hosted systems. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
6. Children’s privacy
Indie Lot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
7. Your choices
- You can update profile information in the product.
- You can disable push notifications in iOS Settings.
- You can sign out of the iOS app; session credentials are removed from the device Keychain on sign-out.
- You can delete your Indie Lot account in the iOS app or at https://indie-lot.com/account.
- You can contact us to request access, correction, or help with deletion of personal information we hold, subject to applicable law.
8. International users
Indie Lot is operated from the United States. If you use the service from another country, you understand your information may be processed in the United States.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version at https://indie-lot.com/privacy and change the effective date above.
